VMware: What Do We Know About the New Licensing Models?

VMware recently announced its new licensing models:

VMware now offers its new licensing models in four different categories: VMware Cloud Foundation, vSphere Foundation, vSphere Standard and vSphere Essentials Plus.

vSphere Essentials Plus: a comprehensive solution designed to meet the needs of small businesses and departments. It includes capabilities such as virtualization, backup, load balancing and high availability, so that businesses can increase their efficiency and operate without interruption.

vSphere Standard: a standard virtualization solution. This package delivers advanced capabilities for managing virtual machines and improving their performance.

vSphere Foundation: forms the foundation of the virtualization platform and gives customers the ability to manage and optimize their virtual machines. This base package is designed to meet the needs of small and medium-sized businesses. As shown in the image above, this licensing package includes the vSphere (includes TKGs, vCenter), vSAN (100GiB/core) and Aria Suite Standard modules.

VMware Cloud Foundation: works in an integrated way with cloud infrastructure to provide customers with fast, flexible cloud services. By bringing together the virtualization, storage, network and management layers, it simplifies deployment and management. This licensing package includes the vSphere (includes TKGs, vCenter), vSAN (1 TiB/core), NSX Networking / HCX / AON, Aria Suite Enterprise, SDDC Manager/DSM, and Select Support and Activation and Upgrade Support modules.

Alongside the modules included in the VMware Cloud Foundation and vSphere Foundation licensing packages you have purchased, you can also add the products listed under Advanced Services Add-Ons, as shown in the image.
